True Satisfaction

True satisfaction is found in Jesus Christ. Period. Not in “doing things for Jesus”, i.e. serving others, evangelizing, teaching, activism, etc.

In truly knowing him: spending time with him, listening to him, waiting on him, making myself available to him – true satisfaction is found. His life – His presence in me, slowly over time in this relationship, begins to saturate me. I become more and more familiar with him – more and more satisfied in him – more able to discern how he leads me. He is so very subtle. If I can’t carve out a few moments a week to just sit with him, the busyness and noise will not allow his voice to be heard.

In religious circles, as soon as a person receives the Lord, they are taught to “do things for Jesus”: tell others about him, read the bible, study, even prayer becomes a daily chore to be checked off a to do list – if I “really want to make God happy”.

Although there is nothing wrong with the above activities, if they don’t spring out of a living, vibrant relationship with Jesus Christ my Lord who dwells in me, as I offer myself as his yielded instrument to perform through, they can become lifeless rituals.

Believing in Jesus is not just giving mental assent to who he is – even the demons do that. Believing in Jesus is actually day by day beholding him (turning eyes of faith to his presence in me) in complete trust that he is truly interested in expressing himself through me. And in order for him to do that I keep my eyes on him and walk in faith.
